Former Antelope Valley-East Kern Water Agency Director George Lane accepted an appointment to fill AVEK’s Division 4 seat, a vacancy created following the untimely death of his 34-year-old son Justin Lane, who was involved in a fatal traffic accident on January 1, 2021.

Hope for an increased allocation of imported surface water this year dimmed when the California Department of Water Resources notified State Water Project Contractors, including the Antelope Valley-East Kern Water Agency, of a decrease in supplies from 10% to 5%.

As community residents settled into 2021, crews from AVEK tended to a major maintenance project in Leona Valley.

AVEK Directors supported the Agency's participation in a U.S. Geological Survey Groundwater Monitoring Program as one of three local State Water Contractors that together comprise the Antelope Valley State Water Contractors Association.

AVEK Staff knows the way to maintain a winning streak and they managed that again this past year through an effort that earned the Agency three President’s Special Recognition Awards from the Association of California Water Agencies Joint Powers Insurance Authority, otherwise called the ACWA-JPIA Rate Stabilization Fund. The staff’s success garnered the Agency a refund check for $65,497.84.

As a voice for some 450 water suppliers, the Association of California Water Agencies (ACWA) in late January proposed a Roadmap to Achieving Voluntary Agreements in a plan intended to improve conditions at the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, and ACWA hopes to enlist assistance from the Biden Administration.
