Promoted: a Feather in His Baseball Cap

From Day One at AVEK, Steve Olmscheid, the recently promoted Maintenance Supervisor, seemed destined for a position of elevated authority.

Steve, an Antelope Acres resident, has worked at AVEK for seven years, where he started as a welder/maintenance staffer in February 2013. His tasks in that position involved welding/fabrication and the repair of distribution and plant assets. Throughout that seven years, he hasn’t received any promotions or job changes until now.

Steve thoroughly appreciates this opportunity to advance his career.

He initially applied to AVEK while seeking steady work. He said he heard that AVEK is a “great place to work” and the Agency provides employees with good benefits.

Prior to coming on board at AVEK, Steve worked for 10 years as a Union pipe fitter/welder.

He hails from this neck of the woods, being born and raised in Acton. Steve moved to the Quartz Hill community during his high school years.

Steve and his wife Sara delight in time shared with their two sons Derek, 11, and Bryce, 7, in the rural backdrop of their Antelope Acres home.

Steve appears to believe in the adage, a family that plays together, stays together.

“I spend my free time with my family,” he said.

His eldest son participates in drag races and he plays football. Steve, too, engages in drag races. His younger son is into BMX Racing and competing in Ninja Warrior Obstacle Courses.

As a family they look forward to camping trips.
